Serie A Matchday 1: All Ten Results, and Only One Draw
Read this post in: Português
Serie A’s 2026-27 season opened across three days, August 22 to 24, and finished with Roma putting four past Fiorentina on the Monday night. Ten matches, twenty-four goals, and a pattern in the results that almost nobody had written on their sheet.
If your group runs an Italian league pool, this is the page with the round closed. Every score below is confirmed in two independent sources.

Three home wins, six away wins, one draw
Read the right-hand column again, because this is the number worth keeping.
The home side won three of ten. Inter, Atalanta and Roma. The away side won six — Napoli at Genoa, Cagliari at Parma, Juventus at Frosinone, Lecce at Venezia, Milan at Torino and Lazio at Bologna. One match, Udinese 1-1 Como, finished level.
Most pool sheets are filled in with a quiet thumb on the scale for the home team, because across a full season that thumb is usually right. On this particular weekend it was wrong twice as often as it was right. That is not a rule you should carry into matchday 2 — one round is one round — but it is a good reminder of what an opening round actually is.
Six teams kept a clean sheet: Napoli, Cagliari, Juventus, Lecce, Lazio and Roma.
Roma 4-0 Fiorentina: the hat-trick that closed the round
The biggest score of the round, and one player wrote most of it. Donyell Malen scored three — the first at 27 minutes, the other two after the interval — and Pisilli added the fourth late.
A note on precision, because we got this wrong on our Spanish site and have corrected it: Italian outlets write second-half goals in their own notation, counting minutes from the restart rather than from kick-off, and the sources do not agree once you convert them. The 27th-minute opener and the hat-trick itself are solid in every source. The exact clock times of the second and third goals are not, so we are not printing them.
The other Monday match, Bologna 0-1 Lazio, was settled by Frattesi at 59 minutes — the only goal of the night.
One draw in ten is the part that costs people points
Here is the practical consequence for anyone filling in a sheet.
Nine of the ten matches produced a winner. In a round where almost everything resolved, the single match that did not — Udinese 1-1 Como — is the one that separated the table, because it is exactly the fixture people leave un-drawn. Marking a draw feels like declining to have an opinion, so most players never mark one, and then a round like this hands the points to whoever did.
This is the same lesson the opening weekend kept teaching across Europe. Saturday alone produced seven upsets in five leagues, and the Premier League’s own round closed a day late at Craven Cottage with five goals. Round one has no form table behind it — just pre-season, new signings and, at several clubs, a new manager. Everyone in your group is picking from the same thin information, which is precisely why one contrarian box is worth more now than it will be in November.
